This Saturday night, Wentworth Park Greyhounds will again be holding its Annual Family Xmas Event. Santa, kids entertainment, showbags, Jack Russell dog races and reindeer rides will be available for all the family, so we hope to see you down here at the Glebe track.
Races kick off at 7.22pm and race eight of the ten race program is our feature event of the night, the Group 3 John Stollery (the late bookmaker pictured) Xmas Gift over 520m.
The Xmas Gift Final is a very interesting affair and it is difficult to even pick likely placegetters let alone the winner from this healthy field.
Old timer Ritza Ryder gets the Box 1 cherry, and although he won his heat convincingly last week, this is a much stronger field for him to contest with. Ritza has at least one thing in his favour; the first split speed map is forecasting a mighty crunch at the start from Box 2 to 8. Ritza will likely be the slowest starter of the field and could be presented with a ‘Steven Bradbury’ clear run on the first turn.
Other runners in serious contention include Peter Rocket from Box 3, Edge from 4 and Double Twist from 5. Peter Rocket and Double Twist, half siblings by Where’s Pedro gave punters the finish they wanted last week, and if both can get away cleanly Saturday we will again be set for a fantastic wrestle in the straight.
Double Twist has the wood just over the fast beginning Peter Rocket, the 16 starts at Wenty under her belt clearly helping as opposed to three starts for PR. PR however has a better winning time of 29.52, recorded here back in March off Box 2 to DT’s 29.65. Peter Rocket had 3.5 lengths on Double Twist in the back straight last week but still lost by a length. Based on that race in isolation, if PR can stretch that to four lengths in the back straight on Saturday, we could be in for a fantastic finish.
NSW runner Edge won his heat in 29.90 last week and, like the rest of the field, really needs a clean start and a bit of luck to take this out. Tee Brady, at generous odds for 17/1 last week, found the gap from Box 5 in its heat and stuck with Edge all the way for a commendable 2nd placing. Tee Brady, by Cosmic Rumble, should be considered for the exotics given its start from Box 8.
Allen Malik, Satchmos Hanky and Electro Storm might all be quoted above 7/1 on Saturday, but do not dismiss any of these runners to take out the $25,000 winner’s purse.

We are looking at a 25c maximum and 19c minimum on Saturday to compliment our Sizzling Summer of racing at Wentworth Park Glebe, so hopefully see you and your family down here. Gates 5.30pm, First race 7.22pm.
