Greyhounds As Pets
Greyhounds race their hearts out for Wentworth Park patrons every week and when it comes time for them to hang up their racing singlets and retire they deserve to live out the rest of their lives in a loving pet home. The GBOTA supports the ongoing welfare of Greyhounds at Wentworth Park.
Greyhounds as Pets is a not for profit initiative of Greyhound Racing NSW. Our objective is to improve Greyhound welfare by providing dogs with a career change if they are not suited to, or are ready to retire from the racing industry.
Dogs are placed into the programme by caring Owners/Trainers who want the best for their dogs. Upon passing a behavioural assessment to ascertain suitability as a pet and having their vet work done, the Greyhounds are placed into a foster home for six weeks to make the adjustment from living in a racing kennel environment to life in a pet home. On completion of foster care the dogs are adopted to their new families.
Greyhounds make great pets. They are:
Quiet, affectionate and loyal.
Friendly with other dogs.
Quite lazy and only require a short daily walk.
A very clean, low maintenance breed.
Calm and laid back.
GAP always welcomes new adopters, foster carers and volunteers. If you want to become involved or you are an Owner/Trainer wanting to place a dog into the programme, please contact us.
